Project SITE SUPPORT
Mission & Goals
Our Mission:

Project SITE SUPPORT is a network of school, university, community, and business partnerships working together to recruit, prepare, support, and retain a new generation of teachers prepared to meet the diverse learning needs of K-12 children in high-need urban schools.

Goals and Objectives:

1. Student Achievement. There is a reason that this goal is first. Better teachers mean better schools and improved student achievement. Consider the numbers-By the end of the grant period, Project SITE SUPPORT will have place 1400 new teachers in the Baltimore Metro region.

2. Teacher Quality. If we are going to help students in high-need urban areas, we need to prepare teachers not only in terms of content, but also in urban education. The three participating Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) are committed to improving the quality of teacher preparation programs to include (1) a higher level of arts and sciences integration into IHE education programs, and (2) a higher level of correlation between IHEs' and Local Education Agencies' (LEAs') content-area requirements.

3. Placement/Retention. Shouldn't the best teachers be in the schools that need them the most? Shouldn't we do everything we can to keep those talented teachers in the classroom where they make such an impression? Simply put, a PSS goal is to increase the placement and retention of high-quality teachers in high-need schools.

4. Recruitment/Minority Involvement. If we want to teach children to respect diversity we must model it. SITE SUPPORT is committed to increasing the quality, number, and diversity of teacher candidates in critical shortage areas.

5.Technology. The classroom has changed. Technology is infused into all IHE teacher preparation programs. The use of an electronic learning community has enhanced teacher development and mentoring support. Online course modules and portfolios increase the ability of new teachers to use technology for lesson preparation and professional development.
