The Framework Section

The JHU portfolio has two sections, standards and framework. The framework section includes the Introduction which provides the candidates an opportunity to frame their portfolio in their personal philosophy and context of their lives.
Framework Section - must include:

1. Resume
This document should represent both your teaching and other related jobs or skills. It should not exceed 2 pages.

2. Educational Philosophy
This approximately one-page in length summary of your beliefs about teaching and learning provides insight into who you are as a teacher. All teacher actions take place in context and all instructional decisions are supported by what you value and believe about teaching and learning. Your educational philosophy represents to the world your views about teaching and learning. These views are the foundation for the educational and instructional decisions you make everyday in the classroom and in your interactions with students, colleagues and parents. Your philosophy of education, therefore, should be a concise (one page) accounting of your beliefs about teaching and learning and should be consistent with the contents displayed in your portfolio.

3. Professional Development Plan
A short-term and long-term plan for meeting professional goals and specific steps. A professional development plan charts out your short-term and long-range goals. In addition to the identification of goals, a systematic plan and specific steps for meeting those goals is developed.

Consider what you feel are your current challenges-what do you still want to know? These topics become your goals. How will you meet these goals? Will you read, take courses, observe, seek a mentor? You will need to develop a step-by-step procedure for meeting these goals and for documenting your growth.

4. Site Description
A brief account of your school. This narrative should include demographic information about the school and a description. Where do you teach? What are the demographics of your school? Tell me about your classroom. How would you respond to these inquiries? Your answers could be the framework for your site description.

The site description gives those who read your portfolio the CONTEXT of your teaching situation. This part of the Framework Section helps reviewers assess your portfolio with an understanding of the population, available resources and other supports related to teacher and learner success.
