Portfolio Presentation

The presentation sequence is broken down into five parts and will take approximately one hour and twenty minutes. The parts of the presentation include the following:
  • Presentation Preparation and Practice
  • The Portfolio Presentation
  • Questions from Review Team Members
  • Review Team Deliberation
  • Portfolio Feedback

These parts of the presentation sequence are explained in the five sections of the Presentation Phase. Included in some sections are video clips that you may view to become more comfortable with the presentation process.

Preparation
Prior to your presentation, you will have about twenty minutes to prepare and practice for your presentation. This is the time to become comfortable with the room, the equipment, and to download the files you will need during your presentation.

While you are busy preparing, the review team will be meeting in another room to compare and discuss the preliminary ratings given during their pre-assessment of your portfolio. If the team members have given different ratings on a section of your portfolio, the ratings will be discussed and the team will prepare a list of questions for further explanation.

Presentation
This is the time to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have learned and developed as an educator through the program and your student teaching experience. You will have no more than thirty minutes to present your portfolio. Your portfolio presentation should include the following:

  • Introduction of yourself and your internship placement
  • A brief summary of your educational philosophy
  • A discussion of your strongest attributes as an educator connected to your educational philosophy
  • A discussion of your strongest attributes as an educator
  • A discussion of your attributes in need of further development and your professional development plans for reaching those goals
  • If time allows you may also want to present other areas or aspects of your portfolio

Questioning
During this time, the review team members will ask you questions about your knowledge, skills, and/or your presentation.

Expect both questions specific to you portfolio presentation and general questions about teaching. After a question is asked it is appropriate to ask for a moment to think before answering the question. Answer the specific questions asked and use examples from your portfolio whenever possible when answering questions.

After the questions have been asked, you will be excused to allow the review team time for deliberation.

Deliberation
The review team will have about ten minutes to deliberate. They will review and discuss your presentation and answers to the questions to determine your final scores. The review team will also rate your oral presentation providing recommendations and commendations.

Feedback
The review team will invite you back into the presentation room for the feedback session. The reviewers will discuss the strengths of your portfolio and presentation and will offer their recommendations and any requirements they feel are necessary.

If you are given requirements, the review team will clearly explain them at this time. They will also answer any questions you might have about the requirements.

If you do not understand the comments suggested by the review team, have any questions about the ratings or comments, or strongly disagree, request an appointment with the chair of your review committee to discuss these issues.

Following the feedback session, you will meet with the presentation coordinator who will provide you with a copy of the notes, recommendations, and/or requirements for your portfolio.
