Project
SITE SUPPORT (PSS)
has built on the strengths of three Maryland universities recognized as
leaders in the field of teacher education: The Johns Hopkins University,
Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
PSS provided three pathways to a teaching career at the elementary or
secondary school level:
Master's Level School Immersion Internship:
For those who already have an undergraduate degree -- PSS students
pursued a year-long internship in one of the participating Local Education
Agencies (LEAs), and simultaneously earned a master's degree in one year
from Johns Hopkins or the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Teacher candidates in this program received full tuition support and
earn up to $8,000 for the training period in return for an additional
three-year commitment to the LEA.
Master's Level Two-Year Resident Teacher Program:
Individuals could also choose to teach in a high needs school
in one of the participating LEAs and pursue a master's degree
part-time at Johns Hopkins, Morgan State University, or
the University of Maryland Baltimore County during the first
two years of teaching. Teacher candidates in this program
earned a beginning teacher's salary and were awarded full
tuition for the master's degree program in return for an
additional three-year commitment to the Local Education Agency (LEA).
Undergraduate Internship:
PSS offered students at Morgan State
University entering their final undergraduate year, a year-long
teaching internship that provided intensive hands-on training and
guidance from seasoned educators and content experts. Those selected
for this program were awarded full tuition and a stipend in return
for a two-year commitment to teaching in a high-needs school in one
of the LEAs.
